Unimoni India top management volunteers efforts to rebuild Kerala

Supports Habitat for Humanity India to redevelop a family shelter damaged in Kerala floods

Kochi, 01 December 2018: Unimoni India, one of the leading NBFCs of the country, continues to take several initiatives to rebuild the communities of Kerala devastated by the deadly floods which paralysed the state earlier this year. Mr. Amit Saxena, MD and CEO of Unimoni along with a team of 12 top management members have come forward to volunteer their services to reconstruct a home in Aluva in collaboration with the NGO Habitat for Humanity India.

The house belonged to Mrs. Thanka Dasan. She lost her husband during the floods who suffered a cardiac arrest due to the shock of floodwater entering the house. Part of her house was washed away during the floods and remaining part was severely damaged and was uninhabitable. Her son who is a daily wage earner
is struggling to make ends meet and is in no position to rebuild their abode. As a socially responsible organisation, Unimoni helped re-establish Mrs. Dasan’s life by rebuilding a house, which would be a 500 square feet pakka house with a functional sanitation system.

“Lakhs of people were affected as the state of Kerala witnessed one of the worst floods of the century. Rebuilding the infrastructure and lives of the people will be a long process. We at Unimoni are committed to support efforts to restore lives of people by on-ground volunteering and actual contribution of individual time
and efforts, additional to donating money. We are glad to take this initiative to reconstruct the house and make a small but meaningful impact for this family. We look forward to providing continuous support to NGOs in rebuilding more houses in Kerala,” said Mr. Amit Saxena, MD & CEO, Unimoni India.

“Although the floods in Kerala are over, the effects of that massive devastation on the lives of hundreds of families are still visible. The support of the entire country is needed at the moment to rebuild homes of the people affected by the floods. Our rebuilding Kerala initiative aims at restoring lives of the people affected by
the devastating flood. We are grateful Unimoni India who extended their support to this cause,” said Mr. Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India.

Besides this contribution, Unimoni had been actively aiding the relief and rehabilitation efforts. Dr. BR Shetty, Chairman of Unimoni India, donated an amount Rs. 4 crores to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. Over 500 dedicated employees of Unimoni committed a portion of their August 2018 salary to Kerala CM
Relief Fund and volunteered to replenish crucial supplies of medicines, food and drinking water. During this time, the company had provided grace period to its Gold Loan customers to pay the EMIs.
